ACI TILT-UP CERTIFICATION REACHES 700
MARK
FARMINGTON HILLS Mich., July 12, 2005 - The American Concrete Institute and Tilt-Up Concrete Association announce that more than 700 supervisors and technicians have been certified through their tilt-up program.
As of June, 2005, 179 supervisor and 538 technician certifications have been issued, for a total of 717 total certifications. Of those, 121 were issued in Canada. The joint certification program, developed through ACI's C-650 committee, is designed to recognize the growing construction method and maintain its professionalism. To further increase participation in the certification program, the exam is now being offered in Spanish.
"During 2004, use of the site cast tilt-up method increased 23 percent," said Jim Baty, technical director of TCA. "The rise in the number of certified personnel is a direct response to the growth of the method. Tilt-up professionals recognize the benefit of outside validation of their knowledge and experience in the industry and this certification program sets clear professional standards that ensure consistency and quality in Tilt-Up construction throughout North America. Certification is also increasing as a requirement by design professionals wanting their projects to stand apart from others in quality and performance."
The program requires knowledge in the areas of safety, plan reading, scheduling, site preparation and foundations, slabs-on-grade, layout, forming, placement and properties, erection and structural systems.
The next scheduled Tilt-Up certification exam will be held in conjunction with the 2005 TCA Convention in Atlanta, Ga. on October 14. The recommended study workbook for this examination is the ACI Tilt-Up Supervisor and Technician reference guide which is available through both ACI and TCA.
